George K. Weissler
An American born wood-carver, George K. Weissler earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota, in 1977. He subsequently studied wood carving with German born master carver Edward Dietmeter of La Crescent, Minnesota, and then with American wood-carver Leo R. Smith III of Fountain City, Wisconsin.
In 1981 Weissler moved to the Chicago area where he worked for Schmidt Wood Products, carving period piece furniture and wooden signs. In 1984 he opened his own studio. Weissler does custom work for cabinetmakers and conservators, architects, and interior designers on home building and restoration projects.
Some of Weissler's keenest interests include Celtic, Gothic, and Norwegian historic design. His studio is located in Evanston, Illinois.
